India is a fast-growing economy and the momentum of growth has escalated the demand for energy, in terms of both citizen consumption as well as the industrial and commercial sectors. It is a natural corollary of development in a low green energy availability scenario, that India's energy needs, are met by imported fossil fuels which leads to high cost of electricity, environmental pollution and lack of access to clean energy for millions of people. To address these challenges, the Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project & Indradhanush Natural Gas Pipeline projects, which are aimed at expanding the reach of natural gas to the eastern and north-eastern states of the country. Recently commissioned LNG terminal at Dhamra is strategically located to meet the RLNG demand in the eastern region. The development of such profound gas infrastructure in the East, shall act as a catalyst enabling the eastern states to realise its potential in contributing to development of gas-based economy.
With this background, the Indian Chamber of Commerce is organizing a workshop on 'Gas Based Industries in Eastern Region', on Tuesday, 16th April 2024, at the Ebony, The Park Hotel, Kolkata.
