The Distribution sector is the weakest yet the most important link in the electricity chain. The Ministry of Power, Government of India has very appropriately instituted a reform-based and results-linked Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which offers a lifeline to help turn around the fortunes of DISCOMs in a bid to establish a robust, reliable and resilient power sector during this Energy Transition in India. There are ongoing solar projects commissioned in the Northeastern states, the biggest project is in Assam. Considering significant solar isolation in the region, the potential for generation of solar power and export of energy through grid integration with neighboring countries is a promising possibility. Solar pumps in agricultural sector in North Eastern India is integral in the energy transition. MNRE has given special attention to this sector through its PM-KUSUM scheme. The task before the Government, planners, industry and financial institutions is to work in a concerted manner towards implementation of Solar Pumps in the agricultural sector benefitting all the stakeholders. The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project & Indradhanush Natural Gas Pipeline projects, which are aimed at expanding the reach of natural gas to the eastern and north-eastern states of the country. Recently commissioned LNG terminal at Dhamra is strategically located to meet the RLNG demand in the north-eastern region.
