BACKGROUND


Tripura is primarily known for its agri-products such as bamboo, pineapple, cashew nut and tea. The state is also the largest producer of jackfruit and true potato seed (TPS) and the second-largest producer of rubber in India. Rubber and tea-based industries form the prime share of the industrial base in the state, while steel-based industries have recently witnessed developments. The state has established rubber, bamboo and food parks to support existing and potential investors. Moreover, Tripura also has five industrial estates, a growth centre and an export promotion industrial park. The currently functional ONGC Tripura Power Project is also India's biggest Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project, which is registered with the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC). The infrastructure of the state provides smooth connectivity with rest of the country through airways, railways, roadways and very soon to be connected internationally.

Tripura is rich in natural resources like natural gas, rubber, tea, bamboo and medicinal plants. It is also known for its vibrant food processing, bamboo and sericulture industry.

Tripura to become a gateway between Southeast Asia including Bangladesh. This offers immense potential for international trade.



IMPROVING CONNECTIVITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE


Tripura is connected with the rest of Northeast India by National Highway (NH)-8. Improved rail and air connectivity and establishment of trade routes have further facilitated the trade.



UNTAPPED SECTORS


The state has many unexplored sectors such as organic spices, food processing, bio-fuel, textiles, handloom and eco-tourism.



AVAILABILITY OF SKILLED WORKFORCE


The literacy rate of Tripura at 87.22 per cent is higher than the national rate. A substantial portion of the population is in the age group of 15 to 25, and are computer literate.



FAVOURABLE TOURIST DESTINATION


With its pleasant climate and scenic landscape, Tripura is a favoured tourist destination. The state offers visitors a variety of choices such as temples, rivers and rock carvings.
