The term "Industrial safety" is a set of safety protocols, policies and regulations to protect the workers, workplace, work equipment and environment from hazards. It acts as a corrective measure that is reviewed and approved by safety experts periodically to ensure a safe workplace and sustainable business operations. Industrial safety covers a number of issues and topics affecting safety of personnel and the integrity of equipment in a particular industry. With the alarming rate of industrial accidents happening every year, industrial safety is a crucial step save human lives.
Moreover, workers must be educated on how to handle the equipment and basic safety procedures for adequate safety. Health and safety of the employees is an important aspect of a company's smooth and successful functioning which sequentially yield valuable returns to a company by improving employee morale, reducing absenteeism, enhancing productivity, minimizing potential of work-related injuries and illnesses and increasing the quality of manufactured products.
Organizations too are increasingly adopting management systems approach to improve their business performance including Safety, Health and Environment performance. The scope of occupational safety and health has evolved gradually and continuously in response to social, political, technological and economic changes. In recent years, globalization of the world's economies and its repercussions have been perceived as the greatest force for change in the world of work, and consequently in the scope of occupational safety and health, in both positive and negative ways. The Government is committed to regulate all economic activities within the country with a view to ensuring that every working employee is provided with safe and healthful working conditions. The Directorate of Factories and Boilers of Odisha also proposed a 10 Point Action Plan titled as Strategy and Road Map for the reduction of Industrial Accidents in the State of Odisha in 2019.The mechanism for enforcement of the provisions of occupational safety, health and welfare statute in mines includes inspection of mines, inquiry into accidents, surveys, grant of permissions & exemptions, approvals, etc. In addition, Non-statutory promotional measures like National Conference on Safety in mines, National Safety Awards in mining, observance of Safety Weeks, promoting self regulation through Internal Safety Organization and awareness programme are undertaken by the government.
With this backdrop ,Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) ) in Association with Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Labour & ESI Department, Government of Odisha organizing a "Conference on Industrial Safety & Occupational Health" at 0930 hours on 18th January 2024 at Hotel Pal Heights Bhubaneswar .
