India Identified as Global Seaweed Market

The seaweed industry in India has been identified as a focus area for development by both the Government of India and entrepreneurs. It has significant potential to contribute towards the coastal economy through the societal and financial benefits.

CSIR-CSMCRI has successfully worked with a variety of industries and academic institutes to establish and demonstrate the efficacy of Seaweed SAP as a significant bio-stimulant or booster of agricultural productivity which benefits not only important agricultural crops, but also can be used as animal feed supplements.It has wide application in Food, Nutrition, pharmaceuticals and other industries.

With this background, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and CSIR-CSMCRI are organizing the 5th edition of "India International Seaweed Expo and summit 2024 (IISES)" in India International Centre, New Delhi on March 19th & 20th, 2024 to facilitate efforts to develop strategies and measures to promote seaweed industry in India and overseas. The theme of the summit is "Seaweed: Treasure Hunt – Indian Seaweed Sector"

The previous edition, IISES-2023 brought all stakeholders like academics, entrepreneurs, established Seaweed players and policymakers together at one platform from India and overseas. The resolution adopted in 2020 had been well accepted by the highest policy making body of Govt. of India (NITI Aayog) to boost this sector.
