Event Details
The North- Eastern states share rich diversity, in terms of topography and landscapes, ethnicity and culture, biodiversity, and natural resources. Yet, remoteness, historic tensions and conflicts, and geopolitical factors covering the wider region and approximation to South-East Asia have all held socio-economic development back. Industrialization has not yet picked up at any significant scale beyond selected oil projects and tea plantations, as reflected in only approximately 2% contribution of manufacturing in the region to the total manufacturing of the country. The present government under its Act East Policy is seeing the North-East as its development gateway to the countries of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Recognizing the unique challenges of the North-East, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in association with Indian Chamber of Commerce is organizing a DIALOGUE ON 'SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT - FOR ENHANCING LIVELIHOODS IN THE NORTH-EASTERN REGION on 16th June 2022.
The dialogue is being organized under the overall leadership and guidance of the Ministry of DoNER, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, and North eastern Council, Government of India. UNIDO in partnership with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Invest India, and North East Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) is hosting this Dialogue. UNIDO is coordinating the Dialogue under the 'project and partnership' initiative of the '5-year project, funded by DPIIT, entitled 'Facility for International Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (FIC-ISID)'.
